The company:   Williams is one of the world’s leading Formula 1 teams. It exists purely to race in the top echelon of motor racing, where it has been winning grand Prix’s for more than three decades. The Williams name has been synonymous with top-level motorsport since the 1960s.   Role Purpose: Williams designs and manufactures electronic equipment, both hardware and software, for the monitoring & control of various systems on the F1 car. We are looking for a mechanical engineer to help design and integrate these systems on to the car.   Operational Duties: Reporting to the Lead Engineer for Electronics and Sensors, the successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for mechanical engineering within the Systems Engineering department. Responsibilities include designing robust, lightweight enclosures for housing equipment on the car. Design special purpose fixtures for design and production test. Integration of sensors wiring within the vehicle.  Operational Duties: - To work with electronics engineers to design enclosures, and installation details, for Williams’ electronic equipment. - To attend hardware design reviews and put forward points of view on various designs - To devise and oversee mechanical tests, including vibration tests and shock tests to prove the finished equipment is appropriate for use on the car. - To design rig fixtures for design and production test of electronics, sensors, and actuators to ensure that the design is satisfactory - Liaise with Mechanical, Composites and Aero groups when integrating Electronic hardware across the car, taking into account the wider schedule of component deadlines. - Work with production/inspection departments to resolve manufacturing issues - Have a good knowledge of GD&T and be able to make design decisions with minimal supervision. - Support and Lead a Junior Engineer within the group - Take responsibility for a set of components, working through concept stages to delivering the parts to the car. - To be the central point of contact when it comes to integrating electronic hardware/specific set of components across the car. - Be responsible for the quality of Harness Design from a Mechanical perspective on the car and looking after the electronic standard parts library. - Additional tasks may be required. Other Credentials: - Knowledge of CAD software. Experience with Siemens NX is desirable, but training can be given. - Maintain positive relationships with all other factory departments. - To follow the company’s health and Safety policy - Maintain high standard of staff and department presentation, as appropriate for a showcase facility visited by potential sponsors and other VIPs   The Location:   The Williams Group are based in Grove, Oxfordshire. Williams Advanced Engineering are currently recruiting for Contract Design Engineers to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Designer, this is a key role where the successful individual will be responsible for taking a range of designs from initial concepts through to volume production. This will involve working closely with a range of customers from SMB’s to major OEM’s to interpret their requirements and deliver engineered solutions within weight, cost and timing targets. Duties will include working within project teams to undertake a wide range of either mechanical, composite and electrical design projects for a broad customer base. You will be responsible for Component design and detailing using Siemens NX and TeamCentre. In this role you will attend design reviews to present design ideas and to discuss and critique alternative design solutions. You will work closely with the project technical lead to fulfil customer requirements, assisting in generating and presenting project material. You will be responsible for working closely with purchasing and production departments to ensure cost and manufacturing capability. The successful candidate must be educated to degree level in mechanical, automotive, electrical or aerospace engineering with experience of mechanical design in the specialist automotive or motorsport industry. Your experience working with Siemens NX and TeamCentre is essential for this role. The successful individual will have a good ability to use their own initiative and respond quickly to problems, with strong attention to detail, as well as a good working knowledge of proprietary PC software e.g. MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint. The position: We are seeking an engineering graduate to join our facilities team as a Site Sustainability Engineeryou will assist in delivering our ambitious sustainability and continuous improvement strategy. This role would suit a new graduate who has one or two years’ experience under their belt. This will require working with our facilities management team and wider operational departments to update processes, implement improved methods and introduce technologies into the Williams campus, whilst ensuring the site can deliver the uptime required for a demanding Formula One Programme. The role: As a Site Sustainability Engineeryou will: - Update current CAD drawings of the site. This will incorporate buildings, offices and all services (power, mains water, drains, etc) - Investigate and implement TPM & PPM procedures to improve the efficiency of plant and machinery - Be responsible for supporting the development of and leading the implementation of, the sustainability strategy, reducing energy usage and waste in all forms across the site.
