Williams Advanced Engineering are currently recruiting for Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Engineer to join our team on a 6 month contract.
Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Vehicle Integration, this is a key role where the successful individual will provide Vehicle Dynamics & Performance prediction support for Advanced Engineering Technical and Business Development Functions
Duties will be wide ranging and varied and will include the development and maintenance of sub-system and full vehicle models for vehicle dynamics and performance simulation. This will potentially involve the use of external proprietary tools, as well as internally generated code, and their integration into a consistent analysis methodology. The successful candidate will develop technical capability in related areas of automotive system simulation. (e.g. hardware and driver-in-loop simulation, sensor and control system modelling, autonomous vehicle systems.)
The successful individual will use simulation tools to provide vehicle performance predictions in support of Formula E and business development activities as well as supporting the departments technical functions in taking actual vehicle and system designs through from concept to manufacture, analyses will include vehicle handling and load prediction, road and racetrack duty cycle simulation, electrical drivetrain power and thermal management.
The Vehicle Simulation Engineer will support physical testing activities to enable model benchmarking and validation, vehicle system development and issue resolution. The successful individual will maintain positive cross-functional relationships within Advanced Engineering, and with software and hardware vendors.
The successful candidate will have a proven capability of successfully developing vehicle dynamics CAE models for the purpose of chassis performance optimisation. Experience of modelling in a commercial Multi-Body Dynamics package. (e.g. ADAMS, Simpak) and a good understanding of vehicle dynamics theory.
It is essential that the Vehicle Simulation Engineer is familiar with programming algorithms used in vehicle modelling, some experience of coding in relevant languages. (e.g. C#, C++, Matlab, Simulink ) would be advantageous. Familiarity with 1D vehicle systems simulation tools (Ideally GT-Suite) and chassis system test instrumentation, data-logging and data-processing would be beneficial.
