Williams Advanced Engineering are currently recruiting for Principal Engineer – Electrical Systems to join our team on a permanent basis.
Reporting to the Head of Electrical, this is a key role where the successful individual will be responsible for delivery of whole vehicle, system and subsystem engineering designs relating to batteries and vehicle systems. The successful candidate will be capable of designing from a blank sheet of paper, the individual will have broad systems experience allowing them to lead a team of engineers delivering whole electrical system designs. Additionally, they will be expected to support discussions with customers at both technical and senior management levels.
Duties will be wide ranging and varied and will include the leadership of electrical architecture designs aspects of the specification, design, development and delivery of electrical systems engineering for WAE programmes. This covers specific activities such as design, implementation, simulation, testing and calibration of electrical systems for integration of WAE vehicles and batteries into electric or hybrid electric propulsion systems or such other environments as are required by the company.
The Principal Engineer will be responsible for the development of functional safety plans and documentation ensuring that systems are capable of appropriate certification levels as well as the development of requirements in Polarion for cascade to Systems Integration, Battery Systems and Control Systems teams. They will also be required to work with project leads to support the establishment of production and test procedures which will aim progressively towards developing a robust solution to the agreed specification.
With a strong understanding of architectural, functional safety and communications approaches and methodologies, the successful candidate will also have an understanding of network protocols, physical layers and topologies including CAN, LIN, Flexray and experience of product design and development approaches and techniques. The Principal Engineer will have a familiarity with design for manufacture, experience of automotive system design, testing and validation and experience of managing a team.
