Williams Advanced Engineering are currently recruiting for a Thermal CFD Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis.


Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Vehicle Integration, this is a key role where the successful individual will work within the WAE CAE group, and will report into a wide range of projects, the successful individual will have a good understanding of 1D and 3D analysis tools & processes for thermal modelling, with focus on EV powertrains.


Duties will be wide ranging and varied and will include creation, development and running of complex thermal models to simulate a range of applications through 1D and CFD modelling, generating cooling system diagrams and schematics. The successful individual will be able to take analysis based decisions providing guidance to the wider design & manufacturing groups, including presenting, reporting and discussion of analysis results and project material.


The Thermal CFD Engineer will simulate, analyse and then optimise a wide range of thermodynamic systems using 1D and CFD as the primary development tools. This will involve working with and presenting ideas to a range of customers from SMB’s to major OEM’s, and working closely with project team to fulfil customer requirements.


The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant engineering field, such as mechanical, aerospace, aeronautical, CFD or similar and experience in the automotive or motorsport industry (or being able to show that your extensive experience in an advanced engineering environment is transferable).


It is essential that the Thermal CFD Engineer has experience in EV powertrain or IC engine thermal management, a knowledge of working with refrigerant cooling systems would be beneficial. Good CFD literacy in the main automotive/aerospace software packages, including one or more of the following: Siemens STAR CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM and experience of ANSA for geometry prep and surface meshing would be advantageous. A working knowledge of Siemens NX or CATIA V5 would be beneficial.
